Broadband Frequently Asked Questions

Why are Speeds described as 'Up to'?

You will see that on any providers plan specifications, the download speed is described as, for example, up to 8Mb. Why is this?

This download speed is only attainable under certain circumstances. Due to the nature of an ADSL connection, the speed of the line can be affected by the number of people using the connection, the distance your home / office is from the telephone exchange and the quality of cable used in making the connection.

Do I need a second telephone line?

No you can use your existing telephone line to use ADSL broadband. The wire coming into your home is used to provide both voice and internet communication signals.

Both can be used at the same time. All that is required is to have a Broadband in-line filter on eash telephone socket in the home. This will be supplied with your broadband connection pack but you might have to buy others if you have many telephone connections in the home. These filters isolate the low frequency voice signal from the signal used for broadband, therefore giving the cleanest possible communication signal.
